Open for almost three decades, Forstall not only provides personal service and advice to its customers but also has the supplies they need at prices meant to inspire.
"We like our customers and we try to do whatever we can to take care of them," says Paul Forstall, who owns the business with founder Natalie Forstall. "We are a fine-art supply store; we also handle engineering, architecture and drafting supplies ... and we discount heavily as a norm. We try to give selection, service and good prices. There may be people cheaper than we are, but there is no one who goes the extra mile like we do."
Customers will find even deeper discounts and a lot more during Forstall's Art Expo July 22 and 23 at the Harrison Avenue store (the shop on Miro Street will be closed for those two days). The expo features discounts of 50 percent off canvases and easels and up to 75 percent off other items as well as door prizes, workshops and demonstrations. The workshops on screen-printing, mat cutting, pastels and watercoloring on canvas are open to the public, but registration is required.
Save Money and the Environment
Cartridge World (1010 Common St., Suite 103, 274-4465) recently opened a shop in New Orleans to refill cartridges for inkjet and laser printers, fax and multi-function machines. Owner David Joseph says consumers will get back the same cartridge they brought in, refilled, for about half the price of buying a new cartridge. Pick-up and delivery services are available to businesses.
Not only do consumers save money, Joseph says, but recycling the cartridges helps to protect our environment. "Just in North America," he says, "more than 350 million cartridges are discarded each year in landfills. Ink cartridges can be reused three to five times, while laser cartridges can be remanufactured countless times, significantly reducing the amount of non-biodegradable waste in our city. Plastic cartridges can take up to 1,000 years to decompose."
