A Piece of My Heart

comment
A Piece of My Heart offers a different perspective on Vietnam, depicting six women's stories about the war. The play follows the lives of a career Army woman, an American Red Cross volunteer, a Navy nurse, two Army nurses and an entertainer before, during and after the conflict, ending with each woman's encounter with the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. Crafted by award-winning playwright Shirley Lauro, A Piece of My Heart is based on the book by Keith Walker, which chronicles the true stories of 26 women veterans. More than 15,000 American women served in combat or as nurses in Vietnam. Walker's book illuminates the combat-zone struggles and post-war numbness from the point of view of women who served. The play makes its regional debut at the Actor's Theatre of New Orleans under the direction of Chelle Ambrose. Due to content, children under 13 will not be admitted. Tickets are $16 general admission, $13 seniors/students and $10 for veterans. --Emily Hohenwarter
