A Night at Miss Mimi's

comment
Just when you thought there was nothing left to hide in the world of burlesque, puppeteer Ricki "Geppetto" Vincent has pulled a couple of strings and found something new. He's created a puppet burlesque show called A Night at Miss Mimi's, which he describes as "Muppets meet Minsky's." He's combined traditional forms of puppet theater, including Japanese-style Bunraku, to create a cabaret show with eight frilly stage acts. Some of the large, elaborately costumed characters take two or three people to operate, and the show will include a demonstration that will allow audience members to try their hands at puppeteering. The show recalls the era of vaudeville and burlesque house entertainment and many of the acts are styled after famous dancers and routines like the fan dance. Tickets $10. — Will Coviello
