Santa Maria Valley, California

$24-$30 Retail

An intense, full-bodied white wine, this 100 percent Roussanne bottling was produced with estate-grown fruit from California's historic Bien Nacido Vineyard. With its stunning varietal character and year-and-a half aging in both once-used and neutral French oak, the wine resembles a true Rhone blanc. It offers complex aromas of honeysuckle, stone fruit, vanilla notes and white pepper. On the palate, taste melon, lime, grapefruit, ripe peach and mineral flavors balanced by a lively acidity culminating in a long finish. It's ready to drink now, but it will improve with several years of cellaring. Drink it with lemon-herb pasta, seafood dishes, roast chicken and pork with fruit sauces. Buy it at: Cork & Bottle, Dorignac's and Acquistapace's Covington Supermarket. — BRENDA MAITLAND
