2007 Vina Maquis Lien

Colchagua, Chile / $17- $19 Retail

This impressive bottling from the central Colchagua region shows Chile is capable of producing exceptional wines at moderate prices. The medium-bodied wine is a blend of Syrah, Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot and Malbec, aged in French oak for one year. It has aromas of black cherry, hints of bitter dark chocolate and oak notes. On the palate, taste ripened berries, cassis, plum, black pepper and spice. Drink it with wild game, duck, tapas pizza, fajitas, tamales and other Mexican fare. Buy it at: Rouses on Tchoupitoulas Street, Cork & Bottle, Prytania Liquor Store and Bacchanal. Drink it at: Le Meritage and Bouche. — Brenda Maitland
