12 Ways to Fight Wrinkles At Home

1. Wear sunscreen and avoid sun exposure. Photoaging (sun damage) causes changes in the skin including wrinkles, dryness, roughness, sagginess and liver spots. Sunglasses protect the delicate skin around the eyes, and a hat will shield your face.

2. Don't smoke. Several research studies show that cigarette smoke releases an enzyme that breaks down collagen and elastin in the skin.

3. Get adequate sleep so your body will produce human growth hormone, which keeps skin thicker and more elastic.

4. Drink lots of water to hydrate your skin and flush impurities from your body.

5. Eat cold-water fish, which provide protein, a building block of skin, and omega-3 fatty acids, which help keep skin plump and youthful.

6. Eat soy, which early research indicates may help protect the skin and heal some sun damage.

7. Drink cocoa instead of caffeine drinks. It is high in epicatechin and catechin, flavanols that help protect the skin from sun damage, improve circulation to skin cells and make skin smoother.

8. Eat fruits and vegetables, which contain antioxidants that fight free radicals and help protect against sun damage.

9. Don't over-wash. Tap water strips skin of barrier oils and moisture, which protect against wrinkles.

10. Topical vitamin C can increase collagen production and correct pigmentation, protect against sun damage and soothe inflammatory skin conditions.

11. Antioxidant creams that contain vitamins A, C, E and beta-carotene provide some sun protection and slight improvement of fine wrinkles.

12. Alpha-hydroxy acids (glycolic and lactic acid) will provide subtle improvements.
